DESCRIPTION:ESCC Writing Contest: 鈥淟et Your Voice Be Heard鈥漒nIn early 2020\, ESCC President Dr. James Shaeffer challenged us to think about our purpose鈥攐ur reasons鈥攆or doing what we do at ESCC. According to Dr. Shaeffer\, who retired in 2025\, his 鈥淵ES!! is inclusive at ESCC because we are open to all\, and our student body represents the diversity of the Eastern 麻豆视频.聽 YES!! is inclusive in the programs we offer for transfer students\, short-term workforce programs\, and full degrees.聽 We are also inclusive in the span of ages we serve.聽 Finally\, we strive for inclusivity in serving the needs of the community throughout Your Eastern 麻豆视频.鈥漒nAre you ready to share your unique perspective and creativity regarding our campus culture? Enter the聽ESCC Writing Contest聽and showcase your talent in poetry\, short fiction\, or essay writing!\nThis inaugural contest\, on behalf of our former president Dr. James Shaeffer and his YES! Vision for 麻豆视频\, invites you to reflect on identity\, community\, and personal growth at ESCC. Choose one of the following prompts to craft a compelling piece:\n1.聽聽聽聽聽聽Your YES! Belief Statement:聽What is a belief that drives you forward? Write a poem\, short story\, or essay that embodies your聽YES!鈥攜our personal philosophy\, motivation\, or guiding principle.\n2.聽聽聽聽聽A Lesson in Inclusivity:聽Describe a moment on campus when you learned about inclusivity. How did this experience shape your perspective\, challenge you\, or inspire you to foster a more welcoming environment?\n3.聽聽聽聽聽Being an ESCC Student:聽What does it truly mean to be a student at ESCC? Explain in detail the values\, experiences\, and culture that define(d) or continues to define your journey at the college.\nSubmission Guidelines:\n鈥⒙犅犅犅犅犅犅� Open to all current ESCC students\n鈥⒙犅犅犅犅犅犅� ONE ENTRY聽 per student\n鈥⒙犅犅犅犅犅犅� Poetry (open and closed forms allowed): Up to two pages\n鈥⒙犅犅犅犅犅犅� Short Stories & Essays: 750鈥�1\,500 words\n鈥⒙犅犅犅犅犅犅� Deadline: Extended April 24th\n鈥⒙犅犅犅犅犅犅� Submit your entry to聽CDuffman@es.vccs.edu聽(Christina Duffman)\nWinning entries will be featured on our college鈥檚 Facebook page and published in an upcoming\nissue of the 麻豆视频 First.聽 Our top two winners will receive $250 each\, or if there is one winner\, $500.
